For us, New Work is not about "hacks" or passing trends, but about fundamental paradigm shifts for the modern world of work. The emergence of the so-called knowledge society is accompanied by a change in societal values.
Knowledge workers are self-confident and demanding – and in high demand today due to the shortage of skilled workers. Companies have to come up with something if they want to win the international competition for the best minds. This is being exacerbated by demographic change: in Germany, the total population is steadily shrinking, and so is the working-age population.
Surveys show that a secure job remains the top priority. At the same time, people don't want work to dictate the pace. Flexibility is in demand. This applies both to self-determination over daily working hours and to flexible employment models. The modern world of work offers a multitude of topics and challenges that will keep us busy over the next few years.
Here some KAOS thoughts on the topic:
- Working from home and other places: Modern communication technologies make it possible to work regardless of location and fixed times. The classic presence culture, in which performance is still measured according to the formula "work divided by time", has become obsolete since Covid at the latest. For us, the future is "hybrid".
- Balancing family and career or work-life integration: the answers from politics and business leave many questions unanswered. It's about giving meaning to life, about women's quotas or even about caring for relatives. Modern employers have the task of developing sensible and suitable offers and solutions.
- Multiple cultures, internationality and diversity: The integration of migrants presents completely new challenges not only to society but also to companies. Many employers hope that immigration will compensate for the shortage of skilled workers. This requires concepts that prepare, sensitize and strengthen long-standing and new employees.
- Generation X, Y, Z: Values, attitudes to work, motivators, leadership styles. Generational conflicts in the business context are becoming more and more obvious. From our point of view, this is a logical consequence of the increased dynamics and complexity that we are all facing.
